The Ardéche way of life
In Ardèche, a change of scenery also means gastronomy! Here, good food is a way of life! The character and uniqueness of the Ardèche is found in its local produce and in its mouth-watering and surprising culinary delights…Wine, strong-flavoured cheese, chestnuts, truffles, honey, blueberries, olives and oils, all natural flavours for you to sample. Taste buds at the ready!
If you love charcuterie, the Ardèche is the place for you! When enjoying an aperitif with family or friends, why not sample a delicious sausage, a ‘caillette’ (regional meatball dish) or some pâté accompanied by some farmhouse bread.
You can then move on to some strong-flavoured cheese. Whether made from goat’s milk or cow’s milk, it is guaranteed to be rich in taste. Goats’ cheeses, such as ‘picodons’ (sweet and sharp), ‘tommes’ and ‘tommettes’ (sweet and creamy) are locally produced specialities. They are also delicious with Ardéche blueberry or mirabelle jam accompanied by a small glass of local wine.
Wines of the Ardèche, it is firstly about the taste passed on through the generations: 3 destinations have been awarded the French “Vignobles & Découvertes” (Vineyards and Discoveries) label, 4 ‘grands crus’ (great vintages), famous for their robust character, but also AOC wines offering a variety of fruity whites or reds in the colours of the south. What better way to sample the range and diversity of the Ardèche than though its wine produce.
Lastly, the fresh or dried chestnut, chestnut flour or purée, whole or in pieces, so many flavours to discover in the AOC “Châtaigne d’Ardèche” (Chestnut of Ardèche). And for those with a sweet tooth, you will love the chestnut cream and marron glacé!
The market is the place to meet local producers and craftsmen, the original culinary masters. Among beautiful encounters and tasting you can take a little piece of the Ardèche home with you to tantalise your taste buds.
